land & space acknowledgement

For the past ten years, TSG has exhibited at the Gladstone Hotel in the Queen West neighbourhood in the city of T’karón:to. While this year’s exhibition is online, we want to recognize the territories that have supported these artists to create, connect and explore.

Based in T’karón:to, the TSG collective organizes in Three Fires Territory, the territory of the Dish with One Spoon Wampum Belt and the area covered by Treaty 13. This city is subject to the Toronto Purchase, and there are unceded lands along the T’karón:to waterfront, land of the Mississaugas of the Credit.

Queer and Trans justice and liberation will never come on stolen and occupied land. As we consider intersectional queer and trans experiences, we necessarily centre our work in decolonial efforts, in uprooting white supremacy in all its forms, and in radical love. We are in support of the #LandBack movement. Turtle Island and Inuit Nunangat are occupied territories and we support the reclamation of these lands through all means necessary.

We are in solidarity with Indigenous Resurgence efforts from Mi’kmaq to Wet’sowet’en to the Secwépemc Land Defenders to 1492 Land Back Lane and all the many points in between.

Artists featured in TSG: Eleventeen are located across Turtle Island and to sites beyond. We invite you to visit our Additional Resources page in order to explore resources in relation to reclamation and resurgence.
